We are more than a physical body. Within us contains many systems for the functioning of the body. One system is our electrical system, which emits electrical impulses to the brain to signal functioning commands to the cells, organs and tissue. It runs like an electrical current circulating through the body just as our blood circulates and nourishes it.

This current has a vibration or speed with which it flows. We can’t control our blood flow or heart beat but our emotions, thoughts and beliefs can actually slow down or speed up this energy current. Did you ever notice how your body felt when you were really excited or happy? You may have experienced a feeling of high energy and your body felt light as opposed to when you felt down, upset or sick. Then your body felt heavy and tired. This vibration or speed of your energy current creates a field of energy that radiates from your body. The way you feel heat from a fire or stove without touching it. If you are unfamiliar with Reiki, it is a gentle form of healing that is conducted within your energy field by a trained practitioner who holds her palms about an inch away from your body and slowly moves them up and down the body, sensing the energy flow within your energy field. Distance Reiki works according to the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which states that we are all connected, since we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole. Invoking this law during a distance Reiki session allows the practitioner to link an object to the energy field of the recipient, such as a photo. Using a photo or other object is not necessary but some practitioners do incorporate this. Practitioners can send Reiki energy to anyone simply by directing their thoughts and energy. Setting up a mutual time is also helpful, so the recipient is open and ready to receive the healing energy.
